GURNARD SAILING CLUB
Gurnard Sailing Club is located on the shores of Gurnard Bay, a mile or so west of Cowes. The club is solely run by its members with no paid staff, and consequently the membership fees are low and offer great value - although you will be expected to help!
The location is superb with the prevailing south-westerly winds providing windward starts and reaching legs to the mainland shore. The racing area is set either within Gurnard Bay for the smaller dinghies, or the exciting waters of the western Solent for fast reaching and Olympic courses. The tides are strong and provide challenging conditions, which make first-class sailors.

GURNARD WI

This is how the hall used to look before it became the Village Hall. The Gurnard Branch of the WI was 71 years old in September 2007, and continued strongly with a membership of about 35 very "happy-at-heart" ladies until late Novembver 2008. The Branch was founded in 1936 by Mrs R. Westbrooke, and the hall was built by Mr R. Westbrooke on land he donated 2 years later.
Regular activities included the monthly branch meeting and social meetings such as scrabble, whist drives, Solent Singers and a slimming group run by a former President. The Branch also involved itself with fundraising and charitable activities, and regularly benefited from both outside and internal speakers talking on a range of subjects.
The hall was leased to Gurnard Parish Council for 99 years from 1st September 2007, and a specially appointed mangement committee took over the day-to-day running of the hall, continuing to enable local people to enjoy the facilities as Mr Westbrook envisaged all those years ago.
The Gurnard Afternoon WI disbanded in November 2008 and was replaced by the Gurnard Bay WI, which meets monthly on the 3rd Wednesday at 7pm for 7.30pm in the Village Hall.
A Cameo (Come And Meet Each Other) Group was formed in January 2009 following the demise of the Afternoon WI Group, which meets monthly in the Village Hall on the 2nd Thursday from 2pm to 4pm.

Gurnard Village Hall
The Village Hall is leased by the Gurnard Parish Council from Gurnard WI for 99 years, and its day-to-day management is undertaken by a dedicated team of volunteers from the Village, which includes 2 Parish Councillors. The hall has been a huge success, becoming even more of a focus for Village life than it was before when it was a WI Hall.
Events taking place at the hall are wide ranging, and include toddler groups, WI gatherings, art groups, family celebrations, Village community meetings, computer clubs and in 2010 there was a wedding reception which completely transformed the hall.
Some photographs follow which hopefully will give a flavour of how versatile the hall can be:
This is how the hall looked before it was decked out for a wedding
Made a start!
The top table is taking shape
Ready for the guests - what a transformation!
Everyone having fun!
The garden lends itself really well to a marquee too
A Cyber Cafe opened in 2011 - great fun!
Help on hand too!
