Gurnard Parish Council was officially formed due to Public demand in 1985, with the first meeting being held on Thursday 18th April.
There are 9 serving Council members who usually serve for 4-year terms, or multiples thereof, and many of the members represent the Parish Council on various other Public Bodies. It is most important for residents to note that Parish Councillors give up much of their spare time to serve the Village, and this service is unpaid.
Full Council meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7pm with the exception of August, and the usual venue is Gurnard Village Hall in Westbrook Lane, off Worsley Road.
Additional Planning meetings are sometimes called, as the Parish Council only has three weeks to make their comments on any local Planning Applications. The Parish Council cannot approve any plans, they can make comments and raise objections, but, the Isle of Wight Council will often overrule their comments.
Additional Committees or Working Parties are formed when required.
