Happy New Year to you all.
At the December and January meetings the main topics discussed were:
THE BUDGET AND PRECPET FOR 2015/16
Councillors have listened to residents who has expressed their wish to retain the services of beach cleaning, toilets and grass cutting which are at risk of being cut by the IW Council, plus the desire to take on the playing field and orchard of the former Gurnard Primary School site. Savings have been made in various areas, but to accommodate these additional services, and take on the field an increase of approximately 41% in precept is being requested.
COMMUNITY BUS
Councillor Fuller advised that the Saturday service of the number 32 bus has now ceased but the Monday service is still running as it is being funded by the voluntary contributions collected.
ANNUAL PARISH MEETING
This year’s meeting will be held on Thursday 16th April 2015. Speakers have been chosen and once their attendance has been confirmed, the meeting will be advertised. Councillors would like a Parish Award to be presented again this year. Nominations please to the clerk by the end of February.
For the first time, Cheese and Wine will be will offered as refreshments.
VILLAGE EMERGENCY AND FLOOD PLAN
These documents have recently been updated and amended and will shortly appear on the Parish Council website. Thank you to all who have volunteered to assist.
PLACE ROAD PLANNING APPEAL
Although this appeal has been lodged, the Parish Council is unable to make any comments until the appeal has been validated. The appeal will not offer a full hearing as it is only a “desk top” meeting, although the planning inspector will conduct a site visit and listen to representations from both the developer and the Isle of Wight Council. The Parish Council is unhappy about this and has written to the Isle of Wight Council Planning Department stating their grave concerns with the process and that the views of over 500 residents will only be read.
PARISH COUNCIL WEBSITE
The Clerk has been receiving some bespoke training and has completed a review of the website. Please take the time to look at the changes and make any comments.
