At the Annual meeting of the Parish Council the main topics discussed were:
POLICE REPORT
PSCO Derek Howard provided a written report which advised that there two crimes in April this year compared to five for the same period last year. The community priorities remain the same.
APPOINTMENTS
Two new councillors were co-opted onto the Parish Council. A new chair has been appointed- Councillor Orrey and appointments to various working groups and outside agencies were completed. For a full list – please see the Parish Council website or notice board.
COCKLETON MEADOW
The Parish Council wishes to raise the profile of the meadow and increase its usage so are approaching Island Roads for a brown tourist sign. They are also checking if planning permission is required for a large sign over the gate. A new warning sign is also to be installed enabling the fence around the pond to be unlocked.
VILLAGE HALL
The Parish Council is to financially support the installation of four new heaters at the village hall and to have the parking area tarmacked at the front of the hall.
BOLLARDS ON THE GREEN
Following safety concerns raised by the Parish Council, the Isle of Wight Council is to install bollards on the kerbside in frount of the Play Area. A further five bollards are being funded by the Parish Council to increase the area slightly toward the footpath to the east of the play area. The area by the boat park down to the slip will not be effected.
ADDITIONAL LITTER BIN EMPTIES
The Parish Council is once again funding additional empties of the litter bins on the Green during the school holiday period. This will cost £175.00 but should decrease the amount of litter that ends up on the beach and grassed areas when the bins are overflowing.
GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATIONS
The clerk has recently attended a local training on the impact of these new regulations which come into force on 25 May 2018. She will be working extra hours to ensure that the Parish Council complies with these new regulations.
AGE FRIENDLY REPORT
The final report has been published. A few hard copies are available from the clerk. Further supplies have been requested from Community Action. The electronic version is also available from the clerk.
FUTURE PARISH COUNCIL MEETINGS
The next full Parish Council meeting will be at 7.00 pm on Wednesday 13 June 2018. Residents are welcome to attend all meetings, which are usually held at the Gurnard Village Hall, Westbrook Lane.
