At the October meeting of the Parish Council the main topics discussed were:
REPORTED CRIMES
PCSO Derek Howard sent a written report. There have been 4 reported crimes in Gurnard during September ā the same as last year. Included in the report was a list of staff members at Cowes Police Station, results from two local speedwatch operations and a reminder of the Community Priorities. Also included was a link to the new Hampshire Alert to which anyone can sign up to: www.hampshirealert.co.uk
PLANNING AND LICENCING
This month there were two applications to consider for planning, but no licensing or Tree Preservation Orders.
COASTAL FOOTPATH
The Coastal Footpath was now re-opened, thanks to the work of the Isle of Wight Council Rights of Way team and local landowners.
OPEN SPACES PROJECT
Mr. Martin Bilson has been elected Chairman with support from Councillor Fuller. A future plan for the area was discussed including identifying the apples trees in the orchard, the creation of a wild flower meadow, clearing the pond area and possible projects for the future to look at access, parking and picnic tables. Recommendations were approved by the Parish Council to pay for up to four sessions of local Green Gym volunteers to clear the orchard and pond areas in the new year. The Parish Council has been told to cut the hedge bordering Cockleton Lane by Island Roads. Grateful thanks go to Mr. and Mrs. Butchers who have agreed to pay for this work together with their own contract, as well as cutting the grass in the field. The signage for the gate has now been agreed by the Parish Councilās insurers and the IW Council legal department so the gate can remain open and provide the āopen accessā as per the terms of the lease.
Anyone wishing to get involved in this community lead project please contact the Parish Council clerk.
COWES WEEK FIREWORK FUNDING 2016 ā 2018
Councillor McNeill submitted a written report about the future of funding the traditional Friday night Fireworks at the end of Cowes Week. As the IW Council provides no funding for this event, donations are sought from the sponsor, Cowes Week Limited, Cowes Water Front Trust, Red Funnel, Artemis and Cowes Town Council. Councillor McNeill was requesting that the Parish Council consider a grant direct from the precept towards the Fireworks. The Parish Council felt that this was not an appropriate way to consider the funding and have suggested that the Fireworks Committee complete a grant application instead.
COMPLAINT
The Parish Council received a written complaint regarding Parish Councilās procedures. This was heard in accordance with the Complaints Policy and recommendations made to the council. The council approved all the recommendations and the complainants are happy that the matter has been closed.
