GURNARD PARISH COUNCIL REPORT FOR THE GURNARD NEWS MAY EDITION
At the April meeting of the Parish Council the main topics discussed were:
POLICE REPORT
There was one reported crime in Gurnard during March compared to none last year.
PARISH COUNCIL VACANCIES
As there were only six nominations for the Parish Council, there are three vacancies. For details of the co-option process please contact the clerk.
TOILET BLOCK ON THE GREEN
The freehold for the toilet block is still being considered by councillors. The Isle of Wight Council are establishing if the tap can be served by its own Water Meter so that the Parish Council does not pay for the water supply. Quotations are also being sought to refurbish the block. Councillors approved the repairs to the guttering.
TRANSPORT FOR THE VILLAGE
The Parish Clerk held a meeting with the General Manager of Southern Vectis, Bluestar and Unilink to discuss possibly extending the service for the Community Bus (number 32). An afternoon service is not possible as the buses are used on the school bus route, but they may be able to add a Monday morning service if they can recruit additional volunteer bus drivers across the Island. A recruitment campaign will be held over the summer with training available in September. They are also considering the possibility of a direct bus from Gurnard to Newport and back.
ANNUAL ACCOUNTS
The clerk presented the Financial and Governance Statements which were approved and signed by the chairman.
BEST KEPT VILLAGE
The Parish Council is working with the Gurnard in Bloom volunteers, the IW Council and Island Roads to improve the appearance of the village. If you see any problems, please contact the clerk so it can be rectified.
FUTURE PARISH COUNCIL MEETINGS
The next full Parish Council meeting will be at 7.00 pm on Thursday 11 May 2017, which is the annual meeting of the council. Residents are welcome to attend all meetings, which are usually held at the Gurnard Village Hall, Westbrook Lane.
