At July’s meeting of the Parish Council, more vandalism was reported to the toilets on the Green; rubbish thrown everywhere, broken glass and wiring pulled from the walls, requiring further repairs. As a result of this sustained vandalism the Parish Council are looking into installing CCTV to monitor the situation which will be a priority for any new toilets proposed for the future, although it is hoped new toilets will be self-locking.
A budget has been agreed by Full Council and tenders to recondition the toilets are being invited from building firms. Site visits can be arranged and a specification for the work obtained by contacting the Chairman, Mr. Terry Nolan, on 01983 298331. Completed tenders should be sent in a sealed envelope marked “Tender” to: The Clerk to the Parish Council, 11 Bay View Road, Gurnard, PO31 8JF by 31st August 2019 and will be discussed in private by the Parish Council.
Access to the pond at Old School Meadow is open and further work is due to be carried out to tidy the Orchard and develop a wild life area where the old fire pit was.
Changes to future grass cutting contracts mean that verge cuts will reduce from 10-12 cuts per year to only 5 cuts a year. Problems with protruding brambles on Winding Way, Place Road, Tuttons Hill, Worsley Road, the top of Albert Road and Cockleton Lane have all been reported to Island Roads given the large proportion of children, elderly, disabled and partially sighted residents walking on these footways.
Councillors are working hard to get Neighbourhood Watch re-established. Please get in touch if you would like to be involved.
