MAY QUEEN PROCESSION 2005
This is a big event in the Village, which is masterminded by the Gurnard Scouts and Guides HQ Committee and usually sponsored by the Parish Council.
The whole Village appears to turn out for this event, and most organisations in the Village put together a float or some other procession attraction.
FIRSY WE HAVE THE 2004 EVENT, WHICH WAS HELD ON THE 1ST MAY
The star float is always the May Queen Float itself >

And the whole procession is led by a band >
The Cowes Carnival Queens were looking very demure >

And a light-hearted feel to the proceedings in 2004 was provided by the Gurnard Cheeky Girls >

There was a real French feel in certain quarters, including a delightful onion-seller >

There was even a touch of Royalty >
And a clever portrayal of the 118 service (was he late?) >

The children quite obviously had a ball, and were the stars of the day! >

All the entries are judged, and the Parish Council has often taken on the responsibility of providing the judges.
The weather was kind in that it remained dry, with the sun putting in an appearance later in the day. The entertainment continued at the Primary School after the procession.
SECONDLY, WE HAVE THE 2005 EVENT WAS HELD ON SATURDAY 7TH MAY.
The weather remained fine for the 2005 event, which was held on the 7th May. The event is primarily a fundraising one and supports the Gurnard Scouts and Guides.
The format was very similar to the 2004 event, with the disappointing exception that there were no individual entries such as the Gurnard Cheeky Girls from 2004.
However, lots of fun was had by all, and hopefully the following will give a flavour of most of what happened:
The procession gathered in Solent View Road, and was led by the band:
Come on you guys – get organised!

Getting better!

That’s better – a little bullying from the”MC” works wonders!

The Carnival Queen and her attendants were looking very demure and relaxed in their chariot.

Behind the Queen was an impressive line up:
Pay attention guys!

That’s better, and a great pose.

There was touch of Middle Eastern class

Ahh!

Neighbouring Cowes Primary School also came along:

What are we supposed to do with these?

Ahh – I see!

Cups, awards and oh please do contribute

Have we had an invasion from out yonder?

This seems to be “rough lot”

At least someone was keeping lookout – I see no ships!

Oh – HMS Victory – very fitting for Trafalgar 200!

Great fun – bless her and her helping “animals”

Neighbouring Northwood was in on the act too

Even the youngest take part

Twirling fundraisers were excellent at parting people from their money

This all a little fishy!

The procession terminates at Gurnard Primary School

Where a “Village Fete” type event takes place
Shall I – shan’t I – what a long way down!

Steady hand now!

How far do I have to throw this?
What – all the way down there?

What – wind turbines in Gurnard?

What do we like – what do we want to change – what do we hate?
Parish Plan display

Unfortunately, the Gurnard Scouts and Guides HQ Committee has resolved not to continue with the fete after the 2005 event, but the procession will continue at least for 2006, and so it looks as though the 2005 fete was the last.
