May Queen Procession 2009

What was, originally, expected to be a frilly pleasant day for the 2009 event turned out to be quite chilly with a brisk wind blowing! It took pace again on Bank Holiday Monday 4th May and the Village turned out en mass to watch the procession.

The procession was followed by a community event at the Village Hall as in 2008, which included refreshments, games and stalls, and the Parish Council also had a formal presence there for the 1st time, and used the event to sound residents out by conducting a “suggestions & ideas” post-it survey, and also had some giveaways to hand out, courtesy of the National Lottery.

A considerable effort was made by the organisers to cultivate more interest in the village, and in particular to encourage individual entries for the procession – this is still a work in progress and it is hoped that local business and schools may take part in the future. The Parish Council is now represented on the committee and intends to continue to support it as best it can.

Solent View Road was closed again for a couple of hours, and this is where the procession mustered and judging as carried out, and parents and leaders managed, as always, to get in the way of enthusiastic photographers – a great community and family event!

Isn’t it great when everyone gets together? Low of preparation going on before the judging:

The band was brilliant as always - “under starter’s orders” (or nearly!).
