May Queen Procession 2010

We had a right mix of weather this year and, whilst there was one fairly heavy rain shower as we arrived at “Spencer’s Field” for the fete following the procession, it remained dry for the remainder of the afternoon with the sun putting a frequent appearance. The event took place again on Bank Holiday Monday (3rd May) and the Village turned out en-mass to watch the procession.

The procession was followed by a community fete, but not at the Village Hall as in 2008 and 2009, rather on Spencer’s Field off Tuttons Hill. There was a huge marquee as well as smaller tents and gazebos housing attractions, stalls and activities as well as a shooting range!

The Parish Council also had a formal presence there for the 2nd year running and erected a display of its recently completed play ground project, as well as other information including a composting display to encourage people to compost at home. Residents were also consulted very informally by means of a post-it survey on 4 topics, and also had some giveaways to hand out.

The organisers did a great job and the event is growing again now, with it being extended this year to feature a beer festival and barn dance over the previous 2 days, again all held in the marquee. The Parish Council continues to be represented on the May Queen committee and intends to continue to support it as best it can.

Solent View Road was closed again for a couple of hours, and this is where the procession mustered and the judging was carried out - parents and leaders managed, as always, to get in the way of the many enthusiastic photographers – a great community and family event!

It was great to see so many people from the Village out and about and there was much preparation going on before the judging:
