PORTLAND INN
The Portland Inn changed hands in December 2007 from Malcolm and Carol Van Erp to Proprietor Sue Brockwell - Sue calls this the Village Inn and looks forward to welcoming one-and-all. The opening hours are noon to 11pm Monday to Thursday, noon to 11.30pm on Friday and Saturdays and noon to 10.30pm on Sundays. Meals are served every day and the varied menu offers good value snacks and full meals, ranging in price (2011) from £4.95 to £12.95. Sunday lunches are also served and food is available 7 days a week from noon to 2.30pm and from 6pm to 9pm. The sheltered beer garden has been extended to provide an area for barbecues and live music, which take place mainly during the summer months obviously.
This is a very popular pub, proving to be a favourite with both locals and customers from further afield - it is a place to relax and meet friends whilst enjoying a good pint, some good food and/or perhaps joining in with some of the events, which include weekly quiz or poker nights and live music evenings - there is also Sky coverage of major sporting events.
A recent addition is the well-appointed function room, which is ideal for private parties, weddings, christenings and other similar occasions (buffet or set meal can be provided for private functions), and the room equally serves well as a meeting venue for local community groups etc.
Winter usually finds a welcoming open fire with mulled wine and roast chestnuts complementing the warm and inviting atmosphere, and there is always a special Christmas menu available.
