The Parish Council is now working with some of the community groups in the Village, as well as the Village community at large, to carry out a series of litter pick exercises. It is hoped to implement 3 of these each year in March, June and October.

The Parish Council has also taken part in the Marine Conservation Society's "Beachwatch" exercise in 2 previous years, where a clean up of the beach is carried out alongside a survey of all the rubbish collected for reporting back, but in 2010 the Parish Council decided not to take part.

The litter pick programme got underway properly in 2010, with the 1st execrcise taking place on the 7th and 8th May and groups from Gurnard Primary School, Gurnard Scouts and some residents all took part.

All the Primary School youngsters and helpers assembled for a photo-shoot before we started

We had help from Gurnard Scouts too, who covered Worsley Road and the Village Green - talk about keen (arm in a sling!)

There was another event on 30th October 2010, spent tidying up the beach but no pictures were available from that event.

The following event was on Saturday 26th March 2011 with about 13 adults and 3 young people meeting up at 10am outside the newsagent's on Worsley Road.

The event went well and there are 3 photos of everyone getting ready for the off.

The most recent event was held over 2 days on 24th & 25th June - the 24th was with children from Gurnard Primary School and the 25th with the community.

There were not as many at either event as we would have liked, but the happiness of the children on the 24th, in particular, made up for it. About 6 bags of rubbish were collected over the 2 days.

Some pictures from the 2 events are below:

The most recent event took place on 22nd October 2011 - this was a bit of a disappointment - ony 2 Parish Councillors, a Parish Councilor's wife and the Ward Councillor turned up!

Pictured outside the Village Hall on what was a glorious morning with the "fruits of their labour" - although there was only 4 of them, they were very productive collecting about 4 part-bags of rubbish! They covered Solent View Road, Worsley Road, Shore Road, and Tuttons Hill.

The next event is scheduled for Saturday 17th March 2012, meeting at Gurnard Village Hall in Worsley Road in time for a 10am start - more details later but do put this in your diaries if you'd like to help!
