At the March meeting of the council, the main topics discussed were:
NEW PLANNING APPLICATION
Consultation was requested with the Parish Council for a new planning application for The Glen, 34 Worsley Road. Councillors heard that a potential developer wishes to have the “over 55” restriction lifted and instead apply for permission to build a mixed tenure of eleven units consisting of some bungalows, with some three and four bedroomed houses over two and three storeys.
OPEN SPACES PROJECT
The lease has now been received from the Isle of Wight Council and following discussion the Parish Council decided to obtain legal advice before signing it. A site visit has taken place to confirm the “phased approach”.
The revised draft has now been received for public consultation. This will take the form of both on-line and hard copies. The Steering Group are meeting to finalise the contents of the document.
TREE PRESERVATION ORDER
Councillor Nolan brought to the attention of councillors the severe pruning which has taken place to the trees by the Gurnard Sailing Club. The council has decided to apply for a TPO to protect the remainder of the trees on the site.
The Parish Council was very pleased to hear of the successful negotiations with the landowners by the Rights of Way team at the IW Council. The proposed diversion should be in place to enable the footpath to be re-opened for this spring. The council requested that they receive monthly updates until the path is re-opened.
The two map boards situated by the notice board and on The Green, have been surveyed and require replacing. Councillors decided that due to the cost, they would instead remove them and include a map on both the notice board and the website for residents and visitors.
Three grant applications were received for the balance of this year’s funds. The councillors decided to provide £150 to Gurnard Toddlers with the other two applications being held over to next year. Applications are sought throughout the year, but please remember that only £1,000 is set aside for distribution.
