At the July meeting of the Parish Council the main topics discussed were:
POLICE REPORT
There were three reported crimes in Gurnard during June. The three community priorities remain the same.
NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN
After 5 years of hard work by Parish Councillors and residents, which included 43 meetings, many thousands of emails, site visits, meetings with the Isle of Wight Council and the employment of two specialist consultants, the Neighbourhood Plan has passed examination. The next stage is that now the IW Council has supported the Plan, a referendum will take place on Thursday 7 September 2017 in the Village Hall. This is your opportunity to decide if the Plan is suitable for Gurnard. Members of the Steering Group will be available ahead of this date to answer any queries – please contact the clerk. A budget of up to £500.00 was agreed to publicize the referendum to ensure that residents are aware of the opportunity to vote.
CONSERVATION AREA FOR SHORE ROAD/SHORE PATH
Councillor Fuller advised that several residents had approached him with a view to seeking his support for the project. The Parish Council decided to seek advice from the IW Council before taking the proposal forward.
RISK ASSESSMENT FOR THE PLAY AREA
The installation of large boulders has been suggested by the IW Council (Landowners) to help reduce the risk of a car driving over the small kerbstone and into the Play Area. An on-site meeting will be arranged with the IW Council to discuss the issue as one Parish Councillor is suggesting a crash barrier as an alternative.
DISABLED AUDIT OF THE VILLAGE
Two residents have taken the time to carry out an informal (free) disabled audit of the village. This report was presented to councillors for consideration. Most of the areas which require improvements are the responsibility of the IW Council and these have been passed to their officers for their information and action. There was one small suggestion to improve disabled access at the doors of the village hall, which has been raised with the Village Hall Association.
The Parish Councillors looked forward to a summer with no meetings, but they are always available by contacting the clerk.
FUTURE PARISH COUNCIL MEETINGS
The next full Parish Council meeting will be at 7.00 pm on Wednesday 13 September 2017. Residents are welcome to attend all meetings, which are usually held at the Gurnard Village Hall, Westbrook Lane.
