At the February meeting of the council, the main topics discussed were:
MY LIFE A FULL LIFE
Mr Paul Savill attended the meeting to provide a presentation to councillors about this new project being rolled out by Community Action IW. The main aim to provide an integrated care service for the elderly and vulnerable people on the Isle of Wight. He is working with public, private and the voluntary sector to ensure that service users receive the most appropriate services for them.
LITTER PICK
There will be another councillor lead community litter pick on Saturday 14th March 2015. Any willing volunteers please meet at the Village Hall at 10am.
COMMUNITY BUS
Councillor Fuller advised councillors of the plans by IW Council to change the way they fund the Community Bus service by giving some grants to clusters of Town and Parish Councils to run their own service. Councillor Fuller will continue to work with both Northwood Parish Council and Cowes Town Council to ensure the future of the Number 32 bus in this area.
PLACE ROAD PLANNING APPEAL
Comments were required by February 18th 2015. This item was discussed at the Planning meeting on Thursday 29th January, and comments were made to support the refusal of planning. Although it is a “desk top” appeal, the Parish Council has requested permission to attend the site visit.
OAKLANDS DEVELOPMENT
Councillors met with the contractor and agent for the landowner, to try and solve some of the problems caused by the construction of the new development behind the village hall. The contractor has issued a cheque as a gesture of good will for the inevitable disruption that the construction work is causing for hall users. This money will be held by the parish council (as lease holders of the hall) until such times as it is needed for essential building maintenance of the hall or towards its eventual replacement.
RURAL BROADBAND PROJECT
Notification has been received of a new broadband cabinet in Worsley Road. This should increase the speed of your broadband although you may need to increase your contract with your broadband provider for this service.
ISLE DRIVE SAFE CAMPAIGN
Councillors have agreed to purchase some wheelie bin stickers for residents to use to promote road safety, particularly around speeding. These can be collected “free of charge” from Bryan’s Newsagents in the village. A donation box will be provided to enable donations which will be used for purchasing further supplies.
